Wine is one of the most sensitive and nuanced agricultural products. It is demonstrated in climate change, drastically transforming the old traditions and practices of winemaking. The wine-growing world had to adapt to hotter summers and warmer winters, droughts, hailstorms, spring frosts, flooding, and forest fires and learn how to deal regularly with once-rare devastations.
The very well-known term terroir that refers to the soil, climate, latitude, and aspect are all influences that cannot be controlled by humans. Mother Nature is constantly throwing a curve ball like uncooperative weather, pests, diseases, and small harvests. But by human influence we can grow the grapes, by supplying enough “food” and water for the vineyard we can help each vineyard to develop its grape to the phenolic ripeness (balance in grape). The vine needs constant crafting which also requires a lot of high labour costs.
